Gourmondo Co CEO & Founder, Alissa Leinonen, describes Gourmondo Gives as “an important way we can support our community on a daily and ongoing basis.” Alissa goes on to say, “I am a fourth generation Seattleite and this city is very important to me. I believe as a local business owner, I have a responsibility to help improve our community through the resources available within Gourmondo.”

Philanthropy has been a key cornerstone of Gourmondo’s business from the start. Giving back to our community is deeply rooted in Gourmondo’s values as a company, and something we are proud to share with our community. We felt #GivingTuesday—an international generosity movement created in 2012 to celebrate giving, collaboration, and generosity—was the perfect day to expand our Giving Box program, which was first introduced in 2016.

In the spirit of #GivingTuesday, Gourmondo is excited to announce the launch of a new line of box lunches: Gourmondo Gives! We have partnered with three unique organizations that highlight some of the most prevalent issues in our community. When asked about her decision-making process, Alissa describes Gourmondo’s hard work and thoughtful consideration of “a variety of non-profit organizations that we’re passionate about, and we believe are making a powerful difference in our community.”GG-Logo-FINAL-01.jpg#asset:5789Gourmondo has selected these organizations for their unique holistic care approach from infancy to adulthood. From Childhaven and LunchDebt.org’s support of at-risk infants and children, to Big Table’s care program for struggling individuals in the restaurant industry, we are excited to support such a powerful and impactful set of organizations!

Childhaven is an early intervention, early learning, and outpatient mental health services program for at-risk children and families in King County. According to Alissa, one of Gourmondo’s primary goals in our non-profit work is “to take a holistic approach and support a variety of non-profits that reach those in need at every stage – from infancy to adulthood. We prioritize partnerships with organizations that catch people before they fall, providing opportunities to shift lives early before people enter extreme crisis.”

Childhaven works to do just that. Established in 1909, Childhaven aims to intervene early in developmental relationships to prevent childhood trauma and prepare children for a lifetime of well-being. Gourmondo is proud to support Childhaven’s efforts to address the epidemic of childhood trauma and adversity through relationship, partnership, and innovation.

LunchDebt.org follows a similar mission to support children and families in need. Founded with the purpose of ending school lunch debt in the State of Washington, LunchDebt.org has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for school lunches across Washington. Over 44% of students in Washington State school districts are on free or reduced-price meals and many students who don’t qualify for these lunches still cannot afford to pay for them. LunchDebt.org set out to end “school lunch shaming,” an issue that occurs when students are denied food, singled out with stamps or wristbands, or given a smaller, alternate meal because they don’t have enough money to pay for lunch. Since Gourmondo’s roots started in boxed lunches, we feel it is especially fitting that a portion of proceeds from The LunchDebt.org box will go to this cause.

In line with the holistic care approach, Big Table focuses on individuals within the restaurant and hospitality workforce. Established on a referral basis, Big Table works to care for those in crisis, transition, or falling through the cracks. The restaurant and hospitality industry has the highest rates of poverty, addiction, and job instability. As a member of the restaurant and hospitality industry for over 20 years, Big Table’s cause is particularly dear to the Gourmondo Team. Our very own Chef, Tyler Hefford-Anderson serves on the board of directors at Big Table and has seen firsthand the positive outcomes Big Table is able to achieve. When asked about Big Table, Hefford-Anderson explained, “Big Table believes in the people, not just the problem. Care is just that, care and support, not just a handout, but a hand up.” Big Table works to establish care for individuals in immediate crisis, to prevent further catastrophe down the line and to provide support to individuals through their transition.

At Gourmondo, we believe that social responsibility starts at the top and it is our responsibility to provide opportunities and resources for at-risk individuals to thrive. Alissa describes corporate social responsibility as “a critical part of the Gourmondo culture and DNA.” As a company, we are proud to support these three incredible causes and each of their important missions. We are excited to invite you to join us in our mission by simply ordering lunch!

Order one of our Childhaven, LunchDebt.org, or Big Table boxes and a portion of the proceeds will be donated directly in support of the cause!
